Buffalo was quite enjoyable. The weather cooperated nicely and the field was just right (big enough, but not too big). My only suggestions to the race organizers are keep check-in open until 6 or 7 PM and turn down the music at dinner.
Thanks to PennDOT, I almost missed check-in. Some dumbass decided to create a traffic accordion by repeatedly closing and reopening lanes in close succession. This resulted in only 7 miles of progress during the 90 minutes it took to clear the construction. Kids….. this is what happens when you don’t get a proper education; you end up working for the government and make the rest of our lives hell at completely inconvenient times.
Buffalo was nearly devoid of people despite a healthy turnout for the marathon. You could easily walk several blocks in any direction and not pass another person. Apparently downtown living isn’t in vogue yet/anymore in Buffalo.
PS. Today’s race is dedicated to my friend Kalev, who turns 21 (again) tomorrow!
