Today I ticked off states 34 & 35 (RI & MA, respectively). Only 15 to go! We made it to Hyannis in plenty of time to explore a bit. We even managed to make a quick stop in Mystic, CT (home of another race I’m pondering) on the way.

The weather looks favorable. The temperature may be a little lower, but this is only a half so all is well. We had a great assortment of liquid refreshment over lunch at the British Beer Company. I recommend the Wachusett Brewing Co’s Blueberry Wheat Ale.

Hotel check-in was a breeze; the location is only 3 miles from the starting line. The Staff (forgive me for missing names, but we’ll clear that up when you eMail) at the Cape Point Hotel was fabulous. We have definitely found a new home when visiting the Cape.

I managed to train perfectly on schedule until the last week. Fortunately, when I did get sick last weekend I had just completed my last long run before the taper was to start. Basically I missed out on a proper taper and ended up with a cold stop. I’m sure there will be some payment due, but illness combined with worsening weather as I recovered have prevented any additional training this week. I’m hopeful that I can get 30 minutes on a hotel treadmill tomorrow just to loosen up.

The weather in Hyannis looks promising (considering…)

We depart at 5 AM! The likelihood of ice covered roads just adds to the drama of this season’s first race.
